Luxottica is the holding company of the Luxottica Group. Co. operates in two industry segments: manufacturing and wholesale distribution, and retail distribution. Through its manufacturing and wholesale distribution operations, Co. is engaged in the design, manufacturing, wholesale distribution and marketing of house brands and designer lines of mid- to premium-priced prescription frames and sunglasses. Co. operates in the retail segment through its Retail Division, consisting of LensCrafters, Inc. and other affiliated companies. As of Dec. 31, 2002, LensCrafters operated 882 stores and Sunglass Hut International operated 1,914 stores.
